Fracking: coming to a London borough near you?

Fracking: coming to a London borough near you?

A new energy firm says it has applied to the Department of Energy and Climate Change for a licence to hunt for shale gas in London.
Called London Local Energy, it was founded a month ago by vocal fracking supporter Nick Grealy, who runs No Hot Air.
One area it could hydraulically fracture or “frack” for shale gas is the Park Royal Industrial Estate near Willesden, reported the BBC.
He told the Harrow Times: “What is important to us is the fact this it local energy for London.
“You are not able to power a tower block with just solar panels. London having its own natural gas supply would help meet the city’s energy needs.
“One of the fears people have is the industrialisation of the landscape but in a built up city like London people will not really notice we are drilling.”
The company’s listed address near Angel in north London is at a “virtual office” which offers businesses from around the world the “full benefit of a central London address”.
