Michelle Chadwick, 36, Project Delivery Manager
Michelle joined BIU in 2008 after working as a Project Business Analyst, testing software for British Gas in both the UK and India; and later as a Quality Assurance Manager for traffic information company ITIS Holdings, which took her to Tel Aviv and Belgium. A chemistry graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University, Michelle is a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner and Six Sigma Greenbelt Trainer. Since joining BIU Michelle has made huge progress, both in her career and in terms of developing the company’s bespoke systems.
“When I first started at BIU my major focus was working with our System clients to assist them in the direct utilisation of our bespoke software Empire and BIU247. I later developed our CRC compliance service and assisted our customers to provide mandatory environmental reporting to the Environment Agency. This involved analysing site portfolios and associated electricity and gas consumption from energy supplier invoices. This allowed me to verify carbon usage and associated financial obligations. I then went back to my roots in project management, creating conceptual system designs using agile project management methodology, managing our internal developers’ workload for the project lifecycles.
My day begins by checking our internal helpdesk to ensure new issues are analysed and prioritised into the developers’ workloads. No day is the same as development and maintenance requests will differ from day to day. I work with stakeholders to specify their requirements to ensure accurate development. So I don’t have a typical day but I will usually be working on either designing upcoming systems, drawing technical diagrams for backend systems or creating test plans for system rollout to ensure the developers have as much information as possible in order to deliver to the highest standard. One of the core things about BIU is the development of all of our systems in-house. This means we can work with our customers to create bespoke solutions that fit their needs within their required timescales and are not constricted by any third party.
It was working directly under a Master Six Sigma Black Belt at ITIS that inspired me to qualify in PRINCE2 and Six Sigma training. Therefore it was a natural progression to come to BIU – my technical qualifications combined with my energy background enable me to create systems tailored for this sector as I understand the specific needs of the industry.
I enjoy the fact that I can work on specific, defined requests, but also receive projects that have more autonomy for developing a creative solution.
The colleagues I work with at BIU are amazing, the IT team and developers are really easy to work with and their intelligent solutions are inspiring. Also as a busy mum of three the flexibility here enables me to balance a career around my family.”
