Lutherans against fossil fuels

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has announced it will not invest in fossil fuels.
At the LWF Council meeting in Geneva, the organisation voted against funding coal projects.
It has also urged its members churches to do the same and support energy efficiency and renewable energy companies.
The LWF Council said: “Through this decision, we seek coherence and wish to send a strong moral signal that the world needs to operate a transformational change towards a low-carbon economy, phasing out fossil fuels and phasing in renewable energies by the middle of this century.”
The LWF joins other institutions which have committed to divest from fossil fuels, including Oxford University, The University of Edinburgh and London School of Medicine.
